Mediaeval Music day – Monday 27 May

  • Chadkirk Chapel and Country Estate Vale Road Stockport, England, SK6 United Kingdom (map)

We’ve had a lot of requests to put on a mediaeval music event at Chadkirk – and it’s now here, and we think it couldn’t be better.

We’ll be hosting the mediaeval music duet Archaedium. Archaedium specialises in costumed, historical musical performance for heritage events. They will bring a range of instruments, not only playing these but introducing them to the audience. This is a family-friendly event and children will be able to join in. There will be an introduction to the musical instruments at 1:00 pm, a minstrel school at 2:00 pm and at 3:00 pm there will be a mediaeval chill-out session.

Archaedium specialises in historic music from Medieval to Victorian

The setlist is 3 x 25 minutes. The first one is a ‘meet the instruments’ set, where the players introduce each instrument to the audience, explain a little about it and its history and then play a Mediaeval tune. The second set is a family-friendly ‘Minstrel School’ set, where the musicians hand out classroom percussion and teach the children some rhythms to play along with us, everyone sings a song together, learns a dance, and may finish with a parade. The final set is a ‘Mediaeval Chillout’ set of beautiful music to send everyone home with a smile on their faces. In addition, there will be a meet and greet by the entrance on pipes and drum.

La Rotta di Tristano at Brecon Medieval Festival

Archaedium has a cracking CD out – also available on streaming services – called Music of the Plantagenets. We’ll be playing this CD outside.

Admission is free, but we expect this to be a busy day so seats in the chapel will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ll be selling wine, Prosecco, hot and cold drinks, snacks and cakes – cash only. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

All funds raised are used for the benefit of Chadkirk, the chapel, the walled garden and the country estate.

For those coming in cars, unless disabled, can we please ask that you park in the car park at the entrance to Vale Road and make your way to the chapel on foot. When you get to the corner of the lane, we suggest that the path to the left of Vale Road is not only safer, it gives you a better view of the Coronation Meadow.
