Privacy notice

We know that you care about your personal data. We want you to trust that the Association of the Friends of Chadkirk Chapel and Estate (“the Friends of Chadkirk”) uses your personal data carefully. This privacy notice explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it and what we do with it.

The non-profit volunteer group the Friends of Chadkirk is the data controller.

We acknowledge and agree that any personal data of yours that we handle will be processed in accordance with all applicable data protection laws.

The information we may collect and how we use it

The Friends of Chadkirk is a volunteer-based non-profit group which helps to manage and promote Chadkirk Chapel, the Chadkirk Country Estate and the surrounding areas. A natural part of this process is the gathering of information required to execute this role properly. We have an open-book approach to running the group and the nature of any relationships is never hidden.

In order to provide our service, we acquire information which is understood to be private. Gathering this information is essential to the operation of the group. Any information taken with third-party peer organisations such as Stockport MBC, its contractors or subcontractors, or other contractors or subcontractors, is considered to be private to those people attending those specific sessions – other than where there is a need to pass on information required for a contractor or partner to perform her/his role. However, it should be noted that all information is available to all members of the Friends of Chadkirk and may be noted in our publicly available minutes – due to the open-book nature of our operation. It is the responsibility of all third parties to inform us of any need for greater confidentiality.

Any commercially sensitive information gained to reach that output is always considered to be confidential. It is expected that we will have the right to demonstrate Chadkirk Chapel, its ground and estate, in order to facilitate the effective operation of the Friends of Chadkirk and to maximise use of the chapel for the community. This would, without agreement, not include commercially sensitive information except as stated above, with publicly available minutes from meetings required to provide open-book operation for the community.

Some projects also require us to handle commercially sensitive documents or data. Unless specifically requested otherwise, such documents are stored with the project materials on servers and systems controlled or managed by the Friends of Chadkirk. Third parties can request access to any or all of these files or documents; third parties can also request the deletion or supply of these files or documents to themselves or a third party, where appropriate – there may be a cost of doing so. Personal data can be, if requested, provided, amended or deleted without cost.

Cookies

We’d like to keep our website cookie-free, but it helps us to use website analytics (our only cookies) to track visitor numbers and actions.

Like most websites today, our website uses analytics software to provide useful information on what visitors do when they come to our website. Analytic software uses ‘cookies’. Cookies are not sinister – they are simply tiny files, placed on your computer by your browser, to help us provide a better service. This helps us to understand things such as how many people visit the various parts of our website.

Our cookies do not identify you personally. If we need to do this (such as when asking you to sign up for a newsletter) we are always upfront about it. We make it clear not only when we collect personal information but also what we intend to do with it.

All websites within the UK now have to comply with a ‘cookie law’ (an update to the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) – this means we now have to tell you that our website uses cookies and provide a mechanism for you to opt out of their use. You’ll see this notice at the foot of every page, until you agree – at which point the notice disappears.

You can control cookies using your browser

If you don’t want your browser to download cookies you can easily opt out. Typically, your Web browser software will allow you to control cookies through its settings. For details on how to do this, please refer to the browser’s help files or the manufacturer’s support pages.

Our website uses analytics for tracking and reporting of site performance. This does not personally identify you – it just helps us understand which parts of our website people like the most. This enables us to make our website better. The kind of information we see includes:

  • the number of visitors at any given time.

  • how many pages each visitor viewed and which ones.

  • how much time visitors spent on each page.

  • whether visitors are new or returning.

  • whether visitors come to our website and immediately leave.

  • how long a visitor spends on our website.

  • the geographic location of the visitor (for example, the United Kingdom).

  • what type of device the visitor is using (for example, desktop or mobile phone).

  • whether the visitor came directly to our website or if the visitor came via a link from another website (including a search engine).

While this information isn’t essential, it is extremely valuable in terms of providing the right content for visitors. However, you can opt out.

Personal data

In order to operate and promote the chapel for the community it is necessary for us to collect and store personally identifiable data which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Telephone numbers

Additionally, it is usual for us to be provided with contact information from third-party suppliers and partners. Permission to supply this information to us is assumed upon its receipt and the information is used only for the purpose of fulfilling service obligations to the community.

Your rights

In addition to this right of access, you also have the following rights: erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability.

Retention of your data

Data is retained no longer than is necessary. However, unless a person has formally terminated a relationship the data is kept with the sole purpose of meeting that person’s needs in the future. As outlined above, we may be required to provide trusted third parties with access to materials needed to perform their roles; in order for them to provide an effective service to us, it is expected that they retain these materials unless we specify otherwise. Any information, data or documents provided to trusted third parties is limited to what is required for them to execute their roles.
